Gift Ogaba Odoh is a PhD student at the Horizon Centre for Doctoral Training, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He specialises in teleoperated and autonomous robotics for nuclear decommissioning in partnership with the UK Atomic Energy Authority's (UKAEA) centre for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE). He is also a science and engineering tutor, and passionate about inspiring others to advance their skills and knowledge. He is deeply committed to making technology and innovation accessible to marginalised communities, using robotics to highlight the benefits of education and technology for societal growth. Gift's advocacy encourages discussions on how robotics impacts communities across technical, environmental and ethical dimensions.
Gift Odoh's PhD research aims to improve robotic teleoperation in challenging environments like nuclear facilities. He is working on adaptive robotic assistance that uses physiological and performance metrics to adjust to an operator’s mental workload in real-time. This research, supported by the UK Research and Innovation's (UKRI) Engineering and Physical Research Council (Grant EP/S023305/1) and RACE UKAEA, strives to boost safety and efficiency in these settings.
Academically, Gift Odoh holds an MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Distinction from the University of Nottingham, UK and a First Class BEng degree in the same field from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Nigeria. His MSc project was a Computer Vision-Based Automated Lane-Keeping System for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, demonstrating his skills in AI and robotics. His BEng project focused on designing a Walking Guide Shoe for the visually impaired, showcasing his dedication to accessibility in technology.
In 2019, Gift Odoh received the CODET-COREN Certificate of Achievement, ranking second nationwide in the Best Engineering Graduate Award after competing with other best graduates of engineering faculty from various Nigerian universities.
Beyond academia, Gift Odoh brings experience in audio-visual technology as an AV Technician with Nottingham Venues, alongside practical roles in electrical engineering, monitoring and evaluation, and broadcast technology during my time with ISDEVCOM, NSUK, and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.
